ERIC is a national information system designed to provide ready access to an extensive body of education-related literature. Our mission is to improve American education by increasing and facilitating the use of educational research and information to improve practice in learning, teaching, educational decision making, and research, wherever and whenever these activities take place. Established in 1966, ERIC is supported by the U.S. Department of Education’s Office of Educational Research and Improvement National Library of Education (NLE). Through 16 subject-specific clearinghouses, associated adjunct clearinghouses, and support components, the ERIC system provides a variety of services and products that can help you stay up to date on a broad range of education-related issues. Products and services include research summaries, bibliographies, reference and referral services, computer searches, and document reproduction. The heart of the ERIC system is the ERIC database, the world’s largest source of education information. The ERIC database contains nearly 1 million abstracts of documents and journal articles on education research and practice. You can search the database online via the Internet, on CD-ROM, or through the printed abstract journals Resources in Education and Current Index to Journals in Education. You can order articles and papers in the ERIC database, other than most journal articles, from the ERIC Document Reproduction Service. The database is updated monthly (quarterly on CD-ROM) to ensure that the information is timely and accurate. Other major products are the The ERIC Review which provides education practitioners with research and news; announces important ERIC developments and new products and services, and presents recent research findings, ERIC Digests which are two-page syntheses of current education research, major publications and clearinghouse websites. We encourage you to learn more about ERIC by viewing the on-line slide show.
