Professional and Advocacy Organizations:
American Psychological Association (APA)
Our country's premier professional association for psychologists offers a greatly detailed FAQ that we recommend highly. It is:
Finding Information About Psychological Tests: Frequently Asked Questions [http://www.apa.org/science/faq-findtests.html]
Association of Test Publishers (ATP)
As the leading professional organization of American test publishers, ATP promotes standards for integrity in test development and advocates for tests' proper usage in the educational, clinical, medical, business, and professional licensure and certification arenas. To the general public, we especially recommend ATP's Questions About Tests [http://www.testpublishers.org/question.htm]. For an international perspective, we also can recommend ATP's European counterpart, the European Test Publishers Group [http://www.etpg.org/].
Consortium for Equity in Standards and Testing (CTEST) [http://wwwcsteep.bc.edu/ctest]
In its efforts to raise the general public's awareness of fairness in the application of standards and in tests' use, CTEST offers outstanding full-text documents, including a Testing and Evaluation Primer and a special presentation entitled What is a Test. CTEST also offers an excellent set of WWW links, a Bulletin Board for online discussion of current equity issues in assessment, and a "testing in the news" section entitled Spotlight Issues.
FairTest - National Center for Fair & Open Testing [http://www.fairtest.org/]
As part of its advocacy mission for the elimination of standardized testing abuse and the promotion of fair, valid, educationally sound testing practices, FairTest offers scholarly research that is presented in prose comprehensible to non-scholars in both electronic and print formats, technical assistance, and other public education and advocacy efforts.
