One such area in the medical field that has grown over the last two decades is radiology. Careers in radiology no longer only pertain to the interpreting of x-ray film. Physicians and technicians who are in the field of radiology have several avenues of medicine to select as their career. Radiology fields include general diagnostic radiologists, multi-imaging radiologists or radiologist interventionalists. The radiologist has options for numerous other sub-specialized career choices that include breast imaging, cardiovascular, chest, computed tomography, diagnostic radiology, emergency radiology gastrointestinal, genitourinary head and neck, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), musculoskeletal, neuro-radiology, nuclear medicine, pediatric radiology, radiological physicist, radiobiology, and radiologist-ultrasound.These careers in radiology each have a vital role to play in helping people who are sick. A radiologist works with technology, but also with patients, other physicians and various technicians. An individual who works in one of the careers in radiology should have the capability to understand medical terminology in specialized medicine and to be able to explain the reading of complicated imaging machinery in lay terms when necessary. A radiologist should be very versatile and willing to work long hours to fulfill what the job demands. Careers in radiology continue to grow because of the new advances in technology. The use of computers to aid in identifying problems has resulted in the ability of the smallest fraction of abnormal growth to be seen. Further, the fact that things that could not be corrected in the past can now be restructured with the aid of technology has helped people with problematic illnesses to live far longer than ever expected. Radiology is one field of medicine that will continue to expand far into the future. |
